Paramahansa Yogananda on Fearlessness

Fearlessness is the impregnable rock on which the house of spiritual life must be erected. Fearlessness means faith in God: faith in His protection, His justice, His wisdom, His mercy, His love, His omnipresence.

Do you ever think that you have been completely unsettled by circumstances — ruffled, shattered, whipped, lacking power? Banish such thoughts! You have power; you do not use it. You have all the power you need. There is nothing greater than the power of the mind.

Under no circumstances let fear take control of your mind and will. Whenever there is a fear, look at it squarely in the face: Try to remove the outer cause and take steps to embolden the mind to overcome that trepidation.

Constantly cultivate the soul’s immortal power by meditation and God-contact, and use that power in all difficulties.

Fear comes from the heart. If ever you feel overcome by dread of some illness or accident, you should inhale and exhale deeply, slowly, and rhythmically several times, relaxing with each exhalation. This helps the circulation to become normal. If your heart is truly quiet you cannot feel fear at all.

We invite you to join SRF/YSS President Brother Chidananda and thousands of SRF members and friends in practicing an affirmation of fearlessness in this video clip from the 2018 SRF World Convocation.
