In pursuing our worthy goals, we need to make many decisions. What is the best resource we can rely on to make good choices as we forge ahead in life?
Daily we are confronted with an array of sensory distractions calling for our attention — challenging our ability to see clearly our path forward — and it’s natural to ask: “How can I know the right course of action, let alone find peace of mind?”
Paramahansa Yogananda taught that latent within each of us is a “sixth sense,” the powerful light of intuition. “Intuition gives the soul knowledge of itself (Self-realization),” he said. “Intuition also bestows clear understanding of truth and duty amidst the confusions of the world.”
Though it takes time to develop accurate intuition, Sri Daya Mata, third president of SRF/YSS, assured us that “as you go on practicing meditation, and living more in the state of interior calmness bestowed by this practice, you will find increasing improvement in the development of your intuitive power.”
So, if you are ready to know more, take a deep, calming breath and absorb Paramahansaji’s wisdom on how by intuition you can receive soul-insights to guide your life, and most importantly feel the presence of the Divine within you.
From the talks and writings of Paramahansa Yogananda:
The more you meditate and keep your mind in tune with the Divine Consciousness, the stronger your intuition becomes. In addition, persons who have controlled their emotions and who are calm within have much keener intuitional powers.
Always remember: As you move on the dark path of life, the greatest thing is to develop that intuitive faculty. That can only come through meditation; there is no other way. When I use intuition it always shows me the right decision to make. It never fails.
This intuition comes to you as an inner voice, or whispering. You must be careful to distinguish that inner guidance from the delusive fanciful voices of the subconscious mind.
Intuition is soul guidance, appearing naturally in man during those instants when his mind is calm....The goal of yoga science is to calm the mind, that without distortion it may hear the infallible counsel of the Inner Voice.
When we know the Heavenly Father, we will have the answers not only to our own problems, but to those that beset the world. Why do we live, and why do we die? Why the present happenings, and why those of the past? I doubt there will ever come on earth any saint who will answer all the questions of all human beings. But in the temple of meditation every riddle of life that troubles our hearts shall be resolved. We will learn the answers to the puzzles of life, and find the solution to all our difficulties, when we come in contact with God.
[From a Prayer-Affirmation in the Self-Realization Fellowship Lessons:] “Beloved Father, in the solitude of my mind I yearn to hear Thy voice. Open Thy lips of silence and whisper constant guiding thoughts to my soul.”
You will find more accessible and uplifting “how-to-live” guidance on intuition from Paramahansa Yogananda on the page “Intuition: Insight of the Soul.” We invite you to draw from his well of eternal understanding and combine that inspiration with your practice of meditation.

When we still our mind we feel tremendous peace. In that peace our intuition is active. Guruji said that after stilling the mind, think about a challenge. Intuitive feeling will guide you.

Drawing on intuition to guide your life is another profound quotes to work on. Thank you so very much. At times I am pulled over by the mind’s instruction as well. It does lead me to destruction. How do I work work along with the power of intuition? May be I should slow down in my actions/activities. May be always seek for His guidance. This often happens when I am out and about. Please kindly guide me. Thank you
