Position Summary
To support public relations activities of the department – including press materials and content development, social media, researching of communications opportunities, and monitoring of news about SRF – to meet the goals of building awareness of the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda and his international society, Self-Realization Fellowship, and its services and products.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the development of press materials (press releases, pitch letters, informational backgrounders and biographies).
- Monitor Social Media and other online communications platforms.
- Ongoing research of SRF content (through SRF publications, website and newsletters) to determine appropriate and relevant pitch/story ideas on the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda and offerings of SRF.
- Contribute to content development for SRF website, as well as external websites, blogs, and media outlets, and SRF Social Media platforms.
- Assist in the fielding of incoming requests, such as from the media, film companies, photographers, academia, and others.
- Identify potential SRF speaker engagements and conference participation.
- Research potential new media and online outlets for media placement, and assist in management of our media database.
- Help to identify online influencers, podcasters, and bloggers for potential SRF coverage.
- Honor and maintain a strict level of confidentiality.
- Responsible to follow SRF’s policies and established processes.
- Other position-related tasks, as assigned.
Requirements
- College/university degree in journalism, marketing/public relations, or communications.
- One to three years’ experience in public relations field.
- Knowledge of local, regional, and national media and blog outlets, and podcasts (print, broadcast, and online).
- Proficiency in media databases (Meltwater, Cision, Muckrack, etc.), Adobe Photoshop a plus.
- Strong familiarity with digital platforms.
- Must be detail-oriented, strong writer, and able to identify newsworthy angles and story ideas.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to represent SRF appropriately when dealing with the public.
- Some travel may be required to attend events in the Los Angeles area.
- The ability to function well in a multi-tasking environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs required.
Additional Details
This is a full-time, hourly non-exempt position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. PST.
This position is hybrid as the individual would need to be present for in-person events in Southern California.
The selected individual must satisfactorily complete our background investigation, and sign a non-disclosure agreement. No reimbursement for relocation costs offered for this position.

Pay range: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour, depending on skills, experience and education.
