    Position Summary

    The Console Operator will be responsible for answering calls in a professional and courteous manner, and routing those calls to the correct department or person.

    This is a part-time position (19 hours per week), and is based in Los Angeles. Please note that the position can be remote, onsite or hybrid after 6 months of onsite training.

    Responsibilities

    • Greet and direct all calls to Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF) Headquarters with warmth, accuracy and efficiency.
    • Respond to a wide range of calls, which include departmental calls, counseling calls, first time inquiries, complaints, personal calls for monastics or employees, emergency and/or crisis.
    • Screen and connect calls for the monastic community, as applicable
    • Record, process, and distribute ongoing new information and is able to adapt quickly to ongoing changes in call handling.
    • Utilize various telephone system features under time pressure; e.g., using the computer console, digital telephones, process “sign-outs” or special information messages on computer, and set up conference calls.
    • Work closely with other operators in an often-busy environment with ongoing ringing of phones.
    • Exercise discretion when giving out information to the public.
    • Flexibility with schedule to fill in for others as needed and help as able during holidays.
    • Honor and maintain a strict level of confidentiality.
    • Responsible to follow SRF’s policies and established processes.
    • Other position-related tasks, as assigned. 

    Requirements

    • Knowledge of and experience with SRF principles and standards preferred.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to relay messages accurately.
    • Pleasant and professional telephone voice.
    • Good vocal control: ability to enunciate clearly, have control of pitch, speed, and tone of voice for foreign callers.
    • Ability to remain composed when receiving urgent, emergency or difficult calls. Ability to think quickly, using tact and discrimination with difficult callers.
    • Ability to handle a large volume of calls effectively.
    • Ability to function well in a multi-task environment.           
    • Comfortable with operating headsets, digital telephones, and pagers.
    • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods.
    • Basic computer skills and technical knowledge, including Microsoft Word, Excel, navigation of SRF website, and internal operator programs for handling calls.
    • High school diploma or equivalent.

    Additional Details

    This is a part-time, hourly non-exempt position, 19 hours per week. The schedule is as follows:  

    • Sunday, 10:30am to 6:00pm (7 hours)
    • Monday, 4:00pm to 8:00pm (4 hours)
    • Tuesday, 4:00pm to 8:00pm (4 hours)
    • Wednesday, 4:00pm to 8:00pm (4 hours)

    The position is based in Los Angeles, but can be remote, onsite or hybrid after 6 months of onsite training.

    Pay range: $17.00 - $19.44 per hour, depending on skills and experience. In addition, we offer paid sick leave and the option to participate in a retirement plan.
