Offering Spiritual and Material Support for Covid Relief Efforts Around the World

May 05, 2021

As India, Brazil, and other parts of the world battle continuing severe outbreaks of the Covid pandemic, many of our members and friends have asked what the SRF community can do to aid the Covid relief efforts being mobilized by governments and relief agencies worldwide.

As a global spiritual community of meditators, we can always offer the great power of concentrated, united prayers at times such as this — which have a more far-reaching cause-effect influence than many people realize. With the drastic escalation of the pandemic in India and other areas over the past few weeks, the monks and nuns in all SRF and YSS ashrams, led by our president, Brother Chidananda, have continued to hold regular healing prayer services especially focused on those affected by this crisis. And we hope you will continue to join the monks and nuns as they pray daily for healing of others, and for world harmony and peace, at these specific times (all times in PDT):

7:50 – 8:00 a.m.

12:50 – 1:00 p.m.

6:50 – 7:00 p.m.

For additional information, we encourage you to read a blog on prayer that was posted last year in the early phase of the pandemic: “Joining Worldwide to Pray Throughout the Day.” This post includes instructions on how to practice the powerful yogic healing technique taught by Paramahansa Yogananda, which is performed daily by the monks and nuns of the SRF Prayer Council and the Worldwide Prayer Circle of SRF members and friends.

The monks at the Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSS) ashrams are also conducting special healing prayer services daily. More information is available on the YSS website.

Additionally, as they often do in times of humanitarian crisis or disaster in India, YSS is contributing material aid to the Covid relief activities in that country in a number of ways, including supplying dry rations to poor communities, providing needed equipment and medicines to charitable and other hospitals serving the afflicted, offering monetary support to needy individuals requiring hospitalization, and helping the poor to shoulder the costs of funerals and cremation for their deceased family members. These efforts have been generously supported by donations from YSS members in India.

For those outside of India, the most effective and speedy way for your monetary contributions to have an immediate impact and to insure that aid reaches those in need — in India or other countries — is to make your donations to one of the reputable international charitable organizations that are specifically set up for Covid relief efforts. Up-to-date lists of many such agencies are regularly provided in the major news media for you to choose from.

Your generous contributions, whether through prayer or monetary offerings, make a profound difference in supporting those in need. God bless you for reaching out in the spirit of compassionate service that Paramahansa Yogananda infused in his organization and followers.
