Paramahansa Yogananda established the Self-Realization Fellowship Encinitas Ashram Center in 1937. Located on the site is the Hermitage, where Paramahansaji lived for many years and wrote his Autobiography of a Yogi, now widely regarded as a modern spiritual classic. The rooms the Guru used are preserved as a shrine.

And there are cliffside meditation gardens, which are open to the public throughout the year and offer a diversity of colorful plants, meditation nooks, koi ponds, and ocean vistas — providing an inspirational setting where one can sit quietly and enjoy the expression of God’s beauty in nature.

The Hermitage, meditation gardens, and nearby Books & Gifts store are located on the Pacific Coast two blocks south of Encinitas Temple.
Books & Gifts offers all the Self-Realization Fellowship publications as well as distinctive arts and crafts from India.
