Position Summary

The Books, Lessons, and Products Operations and Distribution Manager is responsible for the supply chain, production, and global distribution of all SRF products, including books, lessons, and related materials. This role optimizes and oversees publications logistics - from sourcing, production, quality control, inventory management, warehouse management, fulfillment and global distribution to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality delivery to members, centers, and other outlets worldwide. This role will develop distribution models that are aligned with the organization's goals and establish partnerships with 3PL (third-party logistics) providers globally.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive supply chain and logistics strategy for SRF's publications, in alignment with the overall strategic objectives of the organization.
  • Leverage data and knowledge of industry trends and provide inputs to senior leadership for strategic decision-making.

Process Optimization:

  • Establishes efficient and scalable end-to-end operational processes, monitors performance and drives continuous improvement.
  • Streamline workflows leveraging industry best practices and technology to improve overall efficiency and reliability.
  • Collaborate with other departments to identify areas for improvement in operations, supply chain and logistics, and implement strategies to enhance efficiency, reduce costs and improve member satisfaction.

Operational Management:

  • Oversee production workflows for lessons, books, and other SRF products in collaboration with the Publications Center Production Manager.
  • Align production schedules with fluctuating demand while maintaining quality and efficiency.
  • Forecast global operational expenses and revenues, prepare annual budgets, review financial reports and address variances.
  • Monitor and control operational costs, identify cost-optimization opportunities without compromising quality, efficiency or adherence to SRF standards.
  • Implement continuous improvement programs to enhance operational processes and adapt to changing market conditions, leveraging data analytics and technology.
  • Utilize key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and track operational performance.

Supply Chain and Logistics:

  • Optimize supply chain systems for sourcing, production, storage, and distribution of all SRF materials.
  • Optimize inventory management by accurate demand forecasting and planning, balancing the cost of holding inventory with risk of delays or shortages.
  • Oversee warehousing operations and regional hubs for cost-effective and timely delivery.
  • Optimize transportation, warehousing, and distribution networks.

Global Distribution:

  • Determine distribution models best suited for the product type and target geographies.
  • Develop robust global distribution networks for SRF Lessons, books, and products, addressing challenges in less developed regions.
  • Monitor and optimize international shipping logistics on an ongoing basis, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and local industry standards.

Vendor and Partner Management:

  • Negotiate contracts and maintain relationships with global vendors, printers, and logistics partners.
  • Ensure quality, reliability, and alignment with SRF standards across all vendor partnerships.
  • Regularly evaluate vendor performance and pursue opportunities to expand or optimize partnerships.

Order Fulfillment Support:

  • Ensure efficient and timely order fulfillment across various models - direct, partner, consignment, 3PL.
  • Ensure streamlined and member-focused fulfillment support and returns management.
  • Manage member and customer inquiries related to product delivery and satisfaction.
  • Address feedback and quality concerns to improve operational processes.

Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure all operational activities comply with relevant laws, regulations and industry standards in the countries we operate in.
  • Identify potential risks in the supply chain processes and develop strategies to mitigate them.  These would include natural disasters, geopolitical, environmental, and logistical disruptions in geographies where we ship products to.
  • Develop contingency plans for supply chain disruptions or emergencies.

Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Work closely with the Lessons Product Owner on product planning, development, and distribution goals.
  • Collaborate with departments like Marketing, Editorial, Sales, Membership Services, Finance and Technology to support growth (new products and/or geographies), ensure reliable and resilient operations, improve fulfillment processes and address issues in a timely manner.

Other duties:

  • Honor and maintain a strict level of confidentiality.
  • Responsible for following SRF’s policies and established processes.
  • Other position-related tasks, as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in roles with expanding responsibilities in operations, supply chain, logistics or related fields.
  • Proven leadership experience including establishing and executing global operational strategies, preferably in the publishing industry.
  • Knowledge of building resilient, cost-effective supply chains and global operations.
  • Proven experience working with 3rd party logistics (3PL) providers and international distribution partners.
  • Solid knowledge of publishing distribution models for print and digital distribution, e-Commerce fulfillment preferred.
  • Strong understanding of print production processes and inventory planning, demand forecasting and warehouse management.
  • Experience working with warehouse management systems (WMS), supply chain management software (SCM). Experience working with ERPs is a plus.
  • Excellent project management, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets, analyze and optimize operational costs. P&L experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and risk management practices in a global setting.
  • Skilled in leading transformations and scaling operations.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
  • Nonprofit experience preferred.

Additional Details

This is a full-time, salaried exempt position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. PST.

In addition, you must be able to work a flexible schedule based on workload and deadlines

This position is hybrid for the Greater Los Angeles candidates strongly preferred.

Pay range: $123,500.00 – $130,000.00 per year, depending on skills, experience and education.
