Position Summary

  • Assists General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel with all legal matters affecting SRF’s worldwide activities with an emphasis on contracts and other business transactions, tax-exemptions, nonprofit corporate governance, privacy and data protection, employment, real property, immigration, litigation, and other legal matters as directed by General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel.
  • Other position related tasks, as assigned.

Requirements

  • Assists with supervision of Legal Department paralegals and staff, in accordance with General Counsel’s guidance.
  • Supports General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel in implementation of legal strategies and solutions for the organization as a support to the SRF Board of Directors and Management.
  • Assist the General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel in ensuring SRF's transactions and operations comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assist with all functions of SRF Legal Department, as directed by the General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel.
  • Provide legal advice on corporate legal policies, procedures, and processes including issues related to corporate governance; privacy and data protection laws; federal, state and local tax-exemptions; state and local sales and use taxes; employment law; transactions; contracts; dispute resolution; and lawsuits.
  • Conduct legal research, prepare legal documents and memoranda, prepare and review contracts, respond to requests/questions from various SRF Departments as directed by the General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel, manage litigation matters with outside counsel, and seek advice from outside counsel as needed.
  • Honor and maintain a strict level of confidentiality.
  • Responsible to follow SRF’s policies, procedures, and established processes.
  • Perform other position-related tasks, as assigned by the General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel.

Responsibilities

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school required
  • Licensed to practice law in California from the State Bar Association required
  • Minimum of 3 years at a law firm or an in-house legal department required, with experience a plus in any of the following: contracts, tax-exempt law, nonprofit corporate law, privacy and data protection law, litigation, real property law, immigration law, or employment law
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written), negotiation skills, and supervisory skills with the ability to interface effectively with SRF Legal Department, SRF Management, SRF community, and outside counsel and other advisors
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs required.
  • Ability to function competently under pressure, prioritize, and delegate responsibilities as needed
  • Demonstrates high level of initiative, work ethic, organization, and competence
  • Highly analytical with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Prompt and diligent in carrying out tasks and assignments, maintaining communication with the General Counsel and other members of the Legal Department, and following through with decisions and guidance
  • High level of ethics, integrity, and professionalism in performance of all duties and in dealings with others
  • Ability to represent SRF appropriately when dealing with the public, outside legal, or business representatives

Additional Details

This is a full-time, salaried exempt position, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. PST. Nevertheless, you must be able to work a flexible schedule based on workload and deadlines.

The position is remote for those residing in California, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Vermont, Virginia.

The selected individual must satisfactorily complete our background investigation, and sign a non-disclosure agreement.

Pay range: $87,000 - $135,000 per year, depending on skills, experience and education.
