Position Summary

Provide assistance in cooking preparation, as well as in household chores, such as cleaning and sweeping guestrooms and bathrooms. 

Responsibilities

  • Cooking and cooking prep on broad range of foods, including entrees, grains, vegetables, baked good, desserts, special dietary options as needed, etc.
  • Clean dishes, tables, and counters.  Sweep and mop floors, and clean bathrooms in the refectory building.  Assist in maintaining cleanliness in all areas of kitchen and bathrooms.
  • Assist with receiving and storing all supplies (produce, dairy, household).
  • Coordinate volunteers when Kitchen Supervisor Assistant is not present.
  • Clean/sweep guestrooms and bathrooms (regular cleaning and periodic deep cleaning), verandas, and railings, and remake beds according to instructions provided by the Guest Program Manager.
  • Monitor cleaning supplies.
  • Clean other Guest areas, as requested; e.g., Hospitality Room, Chapel and annex bathrooms, Garden Chapel, Fellowship Hall, gym, etc.
  • Other position-related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum six (6) months to one (1) year of hands-on experience in a kitchen.
  • The ability to perform work that involves continuous standing, walking, pulling, bending, going up and down stairs, and repetitive wrist and forearm motions.
  • Physical stamina, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work a full shift on one's feet and maintain physical activity throughout the course of each shift.
  • The ability to safely use all necessary equipment, such as vacuums, utility carts, stepladders, and cleaning solutions.
  • Ability to take instruction well and follow detailed directions.
  • Capable of working within deadlines and time constraints.
  • Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills, and aptitude to exhibit kindness and patience with guests.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Must be comfortable working in a spiritual/religious environment.
  • Have the skill to respond professionally and appropriately to changes and unforeseen challenges as they occur.
  • Fluent in the English language.
  • Valid California drivers' license and an excellent driving record.
  • ServSafe Food Handling Certificate required, refresher course every 3 years.
  • Basic math skills.
  • High school graduate preferred.

Additional Details

This is a full-time, hourly non-exempt position, Tuesday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., and Saturday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Pay range: $18.00 - $22.41 per hour, depending on skills and experience.
