Position Summary
Performs all household cleaning functions in a manner that meets SRF standards. Provides the proper setting as a Dining Room Server during all meals for quality silent dining. Follows precise guidelines in regard to seating, steam table and salad table arrangement. Anticipates retreatant’s needs; assists and answers questions and special requests.
Preparation and cooking of meals for the Retreat and Ashram. General cleanup of Kitchen and Dining Room.
Responsibilities
Household Duties
- Clean Retreat rooms including Retreat office, chapel, dining room, public bathroom, flower room, laundry rooms, employee break room, and employee offices.
- Clean guest rooms and guest restrooms. Remake beds.
- Clean courtyard and walkways.
- Do laundry for kitchen and household including guest towels, aprons, linens, and kitchen rags.
- Assist with linen laundry service pickup and delivery. Assist with restocking linen and housekeeping closets with fresh supplies.
- Monitor household supplies. Refill and reorder supplies as needed for all areas of housekeeping closets and guest rooms.
- Sweep and mop.
Dining Room Duties
- Set up dining room tables, steam table and salad table.
- Prepare tea and/or coffee; assists in putting out food and beverages and maintains adequate volumes.
- Put on music; ring gong, open dining room and maintain an atmosphere of calm.
- Serve retreatants; clear dishes as needed; serve dessert per menu.
- Remove remaining food and beverages and refrigerate as directed by Kitchen Supervisor in accordance with SERVSAFE guidelines, remove placemats.
- Clear and clean dining tables; prepare serving table area for next meal.
- Wash, sanitize and put away all dishes and serving ware; clean and maintain organization of steam table, dining room cabinets and dining room storage area.
Kitchen Duties
- Ability to assist in preparing and cooking entrée, vegetables and/or side dishes.
- Daily assistance in preparation of all varieties of fruits and vegetables, juices and desserts.
- Quantity preparation of salad dressings, sauces and chutney as needed for menus.
- Using SERVSAFE criteria, safely utilize and serve leftovers for Ashram only, no public usage.
- Ability to read and follow quantity recipes and techniques as well as daily calculations and adjustments of food items, determined by menu and as directed by supervisor.
- Must be able to calculate measurements used in cooking and performing large-scale quantity cooking. Make necessary recipe adjustments as needed for a consistently changing census.
- Order and stock food for cooks and salad area. Use proper and consistent rotation and dating of all food items.
- Monitor household supplies. Refill and reorder supplies as needed for all areas of the Kitchen and Dining Room.
- Perform daily cleaning tasks in cook and salad area; keep immediate work area clean and orderly.
- Handle all commercial food equipment safely including food slicer, deep fryer, mixer, blender, juicer and any other equipment as instructed.
- Wash, sanitize and return all equipment and knives to the proper storage areas.
- Reduce, reuse and recycle when appropriate.
- Preparation of meals within SRF guidelines for appearance and taste, as directed by menu criteria and recipes.
- Follow all industry criteria as determined by SERVSAFE for preparation, food temperature and sanitation.
- Other tasks as assigned by the Retreat Assistant Supervisor and the Kitchen Supervisor.
Requirements
- Ability to understand and take direction to prepare large quantities of food.
- May assist in serving meals for the Retreat and Ashram.
- A Food Handler’s Certificate preferred.
- A minimum of four years of high school education or the equivalent skills.
- Skilled in all aspects of Dining Room service.
- Anticipates retreatants needs; assists and answers questions and special requests.
- The ability to functional well in a multi-task environment.
- Must be able to lift and transport 50 lbs. This position involves pulling, continuous walking and standing, bending, and going up and down stairs, and repetitive wrist and forearm motions.
- The ability to safely use equipment such as vacuum, floor machines, utility carts and cleaning solutions.
Additional Details
This is a 40 hour per week position, Wednesday – Sunday, 9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
