We are providing an update about the Retrofit & Rehabilitation Project for the Self-Realization Fellowship International Headquarters, which we announced in previous communications over the past year. As a sacred spiritual home of Paramahansa Yogananda, and center of his worldwide work, the SRF Headquarters in Los Angeles (also known as the Mother Center) has been a beloved pilgrimage site for more than 100 years.
We are about to implement this major project that includes essential seismic and fire-safety upgrades to the International Headquarters Building, which was originally constructed in 1909, as well as necessary improvements to the surrounding site grounds.
In anticipation of the final approvals from the City of Los Angeles for the SRF International Headquarters Retrofit & Rehabilitation Project, closures will take place on the following dates in preparation for construction:
- The International Headquarters Building will close to visitors at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2026, and remain closed for the duration of the project.
- The Meditation Gardens and grounds will close at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2026, and remain closed for the duration of the project.
The construction phase of the project is anticipated to last approximately three years.
We invite you to join us in praying for this project as we prepare for the SRF International Headquarters’ next century of sharing the enduring legacy of Paramahansa Yogananda, who lovingly created this sanctuary of beauty and harmony for all. And please join us as well on Saturday, September 12, at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time, for “A Vision for the Future of the SRF Mother Center,” a special livestream with SRF/YSS President Brother Chidananda and SRF Vice President Brother Vishwananda. During the livestream, they will unveil the vision and inspiration behind the SRF International Headquarters Retrofit & Rehabilitation Project plans — and share a “preview” of the completed project. Im so glad these precious monuments to Guruji's work are being restored so they can and will be a beacon of light to generations to come!
I am deeply praying for the success of this project and for all the monks and nuns who reside and serve at the Mother Center. It was such a joy to visit these sacred grounds on pilgrimage at Convocation, and it’s thrilling to think how many more will be able to experience Guruji’s light and love radiating from the “nucleus” of his work after the project is complete.
