We are pleased to share an update about the Self-Realization Fellowship International Headquarters Retrofit and Rehabilitation Project.
As a sacred spiritual home of our guru, Paramahansa Yogananda, and center of his worldwide work, the SRF International Headquarters (IHQ), also known as the Mother Center, has been a beloved pilgrimage site for one hundred years. The IHQ Building is well over a century old, and its systems and structure have aged considerably. We have therefore been preparing plans for a number of years to implement essential seismic and fire-safety upgrades to this historic building, and make improvements to the surrounding site.
In his livestream on January 24, SRF/YSS President Brother Chidananda announced important dates for the SRF International Headquarters (IHQ) Retrofit and Rehabilitation Project.
To prepare for the construction phase of the project — which we hope to begin in the fall of 2026, pending permit approvals from the City of Los Angeles — the International Headquarters grounds will close in mid-August 2026, shortly after our annual World Convocation (August 2 – 8), and final move-outs, as well as site preparations, will take place. The construction is anticipated to last approximately three years.
We look forward to sharing more updates with you in the near future, and invite you to learn more about the SRF International Headquarters Retrofit and Rehabilitation Project and how you can help.
In addition, you can watch the recording of Brother Chidananda’s recent livestream to find out more about SRF’s current and future plans and projects in furthering the spiritual mission of Paramahansa Yogananda.
